A Letter To All Starting Entrepreneurs

by Natalia Nicholson April 08, 2022 3 min read

Dear new entrepreneurs,

As a seasoned entrepreneur myself, I often think about what I would have liked someone to have told me right back at the beginning of my career.

Natalia Writing Letter To New Entrepreneurs

The entrepreneurial path never runs smoothly, and when you face the setbacks and problems, which you inevitably will, it can be difficult to know the way forward without any advice or words of wisdom to rely on from those who have trod this way before.

In thinking about this, I decided that I should impart my own advice from my experience in the field to other new entrepreneurs who are just starting out with their new business.

So, here’s my advice to all of your budding entrepreneurs out there – I hope it gives you courage, strength and hope.

Forget About Failure

When you’re an entrepreneur, there’s no such thing as failure.

Yes, you’ll make mistakes.

Yes, things will go wrong from time to time. But don’t view them as a failure.

Instead, see them as an opportunity to try again and put things right this time.

This early period of your career is a time of education and learning.

You’re getting hands-on and living your classwork in person.

When you’re starting out, you’re also more adaptable, so just try and you can make big gains.

Know The Importance Of Money

At its basic level, money is, for entrepreneurs, a way to keep score. However, it’s important to be a winner, not a loser in this game of business.

Therefore, a key thing to do when starting out as an entrepreneur is to sense how you can put money to work for you.

If you run out of money at this level, your business is dead in the water.

You’ll need to start again from scratch. So work hard to keep your business growing, and don’t be too afraid to incur risk, although devise ways of minimising it.

Find A Mentor

Perhaps the most valuable thing you can do at this early stage of your entrepreneurship is to find a mentor you can turn to for advice and support.

The entrepreneurial community are keep to pay it forward, so take advantage of that goodwill.

Seek out other entrepreneurs. Speak to them and find ways to adopt or adapt their perspectives.

Listening to their stories of struggle, failure and success will help you find more courage and will also give you inspiration.

Also, in practical terms, they’ll supply you with resources, advice, credibility checks and references.

Find A Method

As an entrepreneur, the basis of your business is selling yourself.

So, the method by which you go about your business is vital.

You need to put integrity and your reputation at the heart of what you do.

Your reputation will always be on the line, therefore you need to ensure that you’re worth doing business with.

Lose your reputation and you’ve lost the entrepreneurial game.

To this end, make planning essential to your operation. Plan each and every thing you do, particularly when you’re just starting out, and when things don’t follow that plan, determine why.
